‘You will also become governors,’ Waititu’s emotional appeal for justice

Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu’s emotional plea for justice has evoked mixed reactions among netizens concerning the decision by Kiambu county on December 19, to impeach the county boss.

Appearing before the Senate Plenary Committee on Tuesday the embattled governor said the Senate sitting had been orchestrated with ill motive meant to deny him justice.

EMOTIONAL APPEAL

“The Senate Standing Orders mention clearly that seven days are required to summon the Senate. Sincerely speaking, members were called well above the seven days,” he stated.

Waititu made an emotional appeal to the Senate Committee members to accord him justice same way they would want to be treated in the event they became governors in 2022.

“I am just requesting you, because I know some of you in 2022 will be governors like it happened last time. Some senators became governors. Even in this House I know a big number of you will also become governors. You will also come here and you will require justice to be done to you,” Waititu said.

“I was in this compound for two terms as an MP and I have now come back here in the dock. I’m sure some of you will also come here and you will require justice to be done to you. I just beseech you to do justice to me as a Senate,” he further pleaded.

LOOTING CLAIMS

The governor distanced himself from looting claims, stating that he did not have access to the county funds as there was a team of experts tasked with handling finances in his administration.

“All accusations have been said. I have experts in the county who deal with finance. Highly qualified staff. Some of those accusations as you have heard them they were handled by different people in the county who were qualified to do that work in the finance procurement. I’m not part of the procurement process. There are so many things that happen in a county that has over 8000 employees,” he said.

However, his desperate pleas seemed to have fallen on deaf ears with the lawyer representing Kiambu county assembly, Nani Mungai, in a blistering rebuttal, held that Waititu had deliberately weakened the county systems then proceeded to make a spoil of public coffers in complicit with his daughter and wives.

“The only thing that one may commend Governor Waititu for is that he does not discriminate; when it came to looting public resources and giving them to the wives, he gave each wife resources,” Mungai said.

A church in Mombasa where a pastor stunned his congregation by stabbed his wife to death and then slit his own throat two weeks ago has been demolished.

The Ground for God’s Gospel Ministries at Chembani village in Kiembeni was pulled down on Sunday in the presence of relatives of the deceased.

Local administrators supervised the demolition of the church as congregants and family members of Elisha Misiki Nyadoya and Anne Mughoi watched.

According to the police, on the fateful day, the pastor left his front row seat and approached his wife, who was also a senior pastor, on the pulpit and stabbed her with one of the knives he had hidden in an envelope.

Misiko died instantly from his stab wounds and Mughoi died at a local hospital a few hours later, police said.

LEADERSHIP FEUD

The couple had been engaged in a long-running feud over the ownership and leadership of the church.

The pastor had accused his spouse, a mother of four, of plotting to edge him out of the church leadership which he claimed he had founded.

Misiko left a 17-page suicide note in which he accused Mughoi of changing ownership of the church to bear her name alone.

A renown Kenyan gym instructor died hours after jokingly posting about death on Facebook.

Zablon Osiemo was involved in a fatal road accident of January 26, hours after he uploaded the said post.

In his last post, Osiemo laughed off the ignorance of those who keep asking him about the financial benefits of going to the gym.

He ended the post in jest by saying “ignorance will keep Kenyans unfit and kill them faster than Coronavirus.”

Genge rapper Hubert Nakitare aka Nonini was among the first people to eulogise the gym instructor.

In his post, Nonini said he and Osiemo had embarked on a 30-days fitness challenge and were only on the second day when the latter died.

“Death is so unfair. How does this happen to my friend Zablon Osiemo. Rest well brother, we had 28 days to go on our fitness challenge,” Nonini wrote on Facebook.

Osiemo was a Fitness instructor, owner and founder of Zablonfitness. He was also a former participant in the Mr Kenya Body Building Championship where he emerged fifth in 2015.

Nigerian woman sentenced to death by hanging for killing her husband

A Nigerian court on Monday, convicted and sentenced Maryam Sanda, the daughter-in-law to former Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Mr Mohammed Bello Haliru, to death by hanging.

Sanda was found guilty of stabbing to death her husband, Bilyamin Bello, who was a real estate developer, in 2017.

Her trial centered on a judicial drama that lasted almost three years due to delays, multiple adjournments and failure of witnesses to appear in court among others.

During the ruling, Justice Yusuf Halilu said that circumstantial evidence before the court, as well as her testimony during the trial and her statement before the police, established that the accused stabbed her husband to death in Abuja on November 19, 2017 with a broken bottle.

“I am convinced that the defendant stabbed the deceased and therefore guilty of charges against her. She is hereby convicted of the murder of her husband as charged,” said the judge.

DEATH SENTENCE

According to The Guardian, Halilu in sentencing her said that from the entire circumstances of the case, justice to the society and to the deceased outweighs other elements of justice to the defendant.

“She should reap what she has sown, blood for blood. For it has been said that thou shall not kill and whoever kills in cold blood deserves death as his or her own reward or punishment. The mindless and senseless killing of men and women in our society must be seriously frowned upon. Accordingly, I hereby sentence Maryam Sanda to death by hanging,” the judge ruled.

Immediately after the sentencing, Sanda was whisked away from the court by officials who were accompanied by security operatives as her family member wailed in the open.

Former NTV Swahili news anchor Doreen Majala has revealed the fine details of the time and hour she dumped her former husband.

In a post on Instagram, Majala also narrated how she called off the relationship at night after going through domestic violence while married to Mwingi Central MP Gideon Mulyungi.

She said that after having enough, she walked out of the marriage with her handbag and had to start life from scratch again.

She went on to encourages other who were going through difficult situations to dust themselves up and carry on with life.

“The courage of walking away at night with only a handbag and starting from scratch, I tell you today, it is possible to get back on your feet no matter your story, the disrespect from intruders who thought it is possible to break through someone’s wall and camp next to it. Let nobody tell your story,” she wrote.

DISTRESS CALL

Majala was depressed at the time of the divorce as she filed a case in court but later decided to settle the matter out of court in agreement estimated at Sh3 million.

The agreement saw the MP saved from a two-year jail term which could have seen him loss his parliamentary seat.

In February 2018, the former news anchor sent out a distress call on social media, claiming that her life was in danger.

“Writing this with a lot of fear. My life is in danger. This evening at about 9.50 p.m. my husband Mwingi Central Member of Parliament Gideon Mulyungi assaulted me at our Karen home and I sustained head injuries at the back of my ear, resulting to my left ear going numb,” the post read.

During the hearing of their divorce case, Majala described the MP as “a man with unforgivable temper”.

Majala quit NTV in December 2019 to focus on her first love which is law.

Here is what you need to do to avoid catching Coronavirus

With Tuesday’s announcement that a student from China arrived in Kenya with coronavirus-like symptom and was admitted at the Kenyatta National Hospital isolation ward, World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a warning of what not to do to prevent infection.

WHO officials are evaluating the situation and doling out advice on how to avoid catching the new virus – while noting that chances of getting it are low.

This includes precautions such as washing hands with soap and water or hand sanitizer, covering one’s nose and mouth when coughing, avoiding close contact with a sick person, cooking meat and eggs thoroughly and avoiding “unprotected contact” with live animals in the wild or on farms.

According to WHO, the virus manifests itself in symptoms similar to any cold or flu, with only rare cases turning fatal.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the signs include runny nose, headache, cough, sore throat, fever and “a general feeling of being unwell.”

Coronavirus is a zoonotic disease, meaning it begins in animals and evolves into something that can be contracted by humans.

The respiratory virus has already killed more than 100 people in China, and has sickened hundreds of others across Asia.

More than 2700 coronavirus cases have been confirmed, prompting countries around the world, including Nigeria, to shore up surveillance and screening at airports, especially for travelers arriving from Wuhan in China where the outbreak began in December 2019.

Waititu’s day of reckoning as senators vote to uphold or dismiss impeachment

$
0
0

This is the moment of truth for Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu.

Senators will today (Wednesday) vote to, either uphold his impeachment, or dismiss the charges filed before it.

The House started hearing the charges against the governor on Tuesday following his impeachment by Members of Kiambu County Assembly on December 19, 2019.

The MCAs accuse the governor of abuse of office, gross misconduct and gross violation of the Constitution, the County Government Act and the Public Finance Management Act.

If the senators uphold any of the impeachment charges, Mr Waititu shall cease to hold office in line with section 33 (7) the County Government Act.

By operation of Article 182 (2) of the Constitution, Mr Waititu’s deputy, Dr James Nyoro, will take over as Kiambu’s new governor for the remainder of the term.

Subsection 3 (a) of this Article provides that one shall be deemed to have served a full term as governor if at the date on which the person assumed office, more than two and a half years remain before the date of the next election.

The next General Election is scheduled for August 2022.

But even as the Senate makes the determination, not all of them will take a vote on the matter.

VOTING PROCESS

Article 123 of the Constitution provides that when the Senate is to vote on any matter other than a Bill, the Speaker shall rule whether it affects or does not affect counties.

When the Senate votes on a matter that does not affect counties, each senator has one vote.

However, an impeachment of a governor is a county affair, meaning that at least 24 of the elected 47 senators, who in the House, constitute the heads of delegations from their respective counties, must vote to uphold any of the charges.

Each county has one vote to be cast by the head of the delegation. In their absence, another member (nominated senator) designated by the head of delegation shall vote.

The person who votes shall determine whether or not to vote in support of, or against the matter, after consulting the other members of the delegation.

If Dr Nyoro takes over, he will be required to appoint his deputy in line with the Supreme Court advisory opinion of March 2018.

The opinion requires governors to nominate their deputies within 14 days, if a vacancy occurs, and have the county assembly consider the matter in 60 days.

DIED IN OFFICE

Already, precedents have been set where Nyeri and Bomet deputy governors occasioned vacancies in their respective offices by virtue of succeeding their bosses after they died in office.

In Nyeri, Deputy Governor Mutahi Kahiga was sworn in after Wahome Gakuru died in a road accident on November 7, 2017, barely three months in office.

The death of Bomet’s Joyce Laboso mid last year saw her deputy Hilary Barchok become governor.

The two have since appointed their deputies in line with the Supreme Court advisory, owing to a lacuna in the County Government Act and the Constitution.

The Constitution and the law do not envisage a vacancy upon death, impeachment or resignation of a governor.

However, an amendment to the County Government Act, if passed by Parliament, will solve the lacuna. The County Government (Amendment) Bill 2018, stalled at the mediation level of the National Assembly and the Senate.

A mediation committee usually has 30 days to get a compromise version of a Bill disagreed by the two Houses and the fact that the committee never agreed means that the Bill will have to be reintroduced.

Samatta, who recently joined Villa from Belgian side Genk, started the match but was substituted with Keinan Davis in the 67th minute.

News of his move to England has been well received in Tanzania and in his home town the Mbagala ground was full to the rafters to watch him make his debut with screens mounted on the village ground where Samatta played football as a young kid.

Babu Owino leaves remand prison after paying Sh2.5 million as part of cash bail

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino, real name Paul Ongili, has been released from Industrial Area Remand Prison.

The legislator, was released after paying Sh2.5 million, part of Sh10 million cash bail in his case over the shooting of a DJ.

On Monday evening, the court said the money would be used to settle the hospital bills of victim DJ Evolve, whose real name is Felix Odhiambo Orinda.

The Sh10 million will be paid to the court in four instalments of Sh2.5 million each.

The money will be used to clear all the bills the DJ will incur in the best medical facilities until he recovers fully. The facilities will make claims through the court.

The court, however, gave tough conditions for the MP’s release from Industrial Area Prison, one being payment of the first instalment of Sh2.5 million before he is freed.

Lawyer Cliff Ombeta said they will pay the amount less the Sh600,000 that the MP paid earlier.

Milimani Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi set other conditions, noting the need to avoid the impression that the payment was used to hoodwink the court into grating the suspect bail.

He said Babu acted with impunity when he offered to pay the bills but also noted that detaining him would be tantamount to fully withdrawing the services the DJ is receiving at The Nairobi Hospital.

TWO SURETIES

Mr Andayi further said there were compelling reasons to deny the MP bail but that he reconsidered the matter so he can pay the bills.

Any unutilised portion of the Sh10 million will remain deposited in court until the case is concluded.

Chief Magistrate Andayi further ordered the MP to present two sureties of equal status.

His lawyers Mr Ombeta, Dunstan Omari, Duncan Okatchi and Charles Omanga said Mathare MP Antony Oluoch and Nominated Senator Beatrice Kwamboka would stand surety for the MP.

Mr Oluoch and Ms Kwamboka were asked to deposit copies of their national identity cards and passports in court.

Mr Andayi also said Babu must not drink alcohol or take narcotics in a public place, or interfere with witnesses, until the case is heard and determined.

Mr Andayi further said Babu cannot comment on the case in any forum, be it in the media or at public gatherings that he will attend in his capacity as an MP.

The court allowed the prosecution to make any application to have the bail terms reviewed or cancelled whenever the terms are breached.

TRAUMATISED

The magistrate said he agonised over the victim’s statement, in which he noted that he feared for his life.

He noted that when the 25-year-old was interviewed by a probation officer, he said, “I am tired, in pain and traumatised and I have not slept for days.”

Mr Andayi further noted that Mr Orinda could not move his hands and legs and was in a critical condition.

He said he wondered whether the DJ will ever return to a state of normalcy.

Mr Owino has denied attempting to kill Mr Orinda on January 17 at B Club in Kilimani, Nairobi.

The case will be mentioned on February 6 for directions on the pre-trial.

Earlier, Chief Magistrate Andayi adjourned the case to enable police to remove noise makers, who made the proceedings difficult. Members of the public who were standing in the courtroom were also ejected.

The magistrate stood down State prosecutor Jacob Ondari, who had been making his submissions, saying he had to wait for normalcy to resume.

Chandarana Supermarket to pay Sh1m to ex-employee who was sexually harassed

The Court of Appeal has affirmed a Sh1 million award given to a woman who was sacked five years ago after filing a sexual harassment complaint.

Judges Roselyn Nambuye, Wanjiru Karanja and Sankale ole Kantai ruled that Ms Cathie Akinyi Nana, a clerk, deserved the compensation from her former employer, Chandarana Supermarket.

While the retailer had asked the court to set aside that award granted earlier by the Employment and Labour Relations Court, the appellate judges dismissed that request.

“We have also reconsidered the circumstances leading to the claim of sexual harassment and the award; we are not persuaded that the amount awarded was excessive. Ultimately, we find no merit in this appeal and dismiss it accordingly,” the judges ruled.

Ms Nana told the court that her woes with her former employer started when she fell ill on March 16, 2015.

She was granted three days’ leave, but on reporting back and after giving medical documentary evidence, she was handed a notice to show cause for her absence. She was then dismissed on July 21, 2015.

Ms Nana said her dismissal had nothing to do with absence from work but had everything to do with a complaint she had made against one Pius Patel for sexually harassing her.

She claimed that the Human Resources Manager faulted her for raising the complaint with the head office instead of her department manager and supervisor. Ms Nana said her direct supervisor had criticised her for raising the complaint.

ABSENT WITHOUT PERMISSION

She said the notice was an attempt to cover-up and protect the management as it had no legitimate cause for firing her yet there was a need to justify why she had to be dismissed.

Ms Nana moved to court in August 2015 and sued her employer over unlawful termination of services and sought damages.

She also wanted the retailer compelled to issue a policy statement on sexual harassment or incorporate the same in the contracts of service for its staff.

But the retailer argued that its code of conduct comprehensively set out what constituted sexual harassment and the venue for seeking redress.

The retailer also argued that Ms Nana did not file any sexual harassment complaints as alleged and that she was absent without permission, hence raised the claim to shield herself from disciplinary action.

The judges also fined the director of Chandarana Sh30,000 for failing to incorporate a sexual harassment policy statement within 60 days as ordered.

Suspects hospitalised after consuming concentrated chang’aa inside police van

Four suspects have been hospitalised at the Maragua Sub-County Hospital after consuming concentrated chang’aa while in a police van that was transporting them to Murang’a prison.

The four had earlier on Monday been arraigned in court for different offences. It was while they were being taken to prison at around 6pm that they drank all the chang’aa that was in the police van.

EXHIBIT

The alcohol was to be produced in court as exhibit for a different case.

The four have been identified as David Murigi, Peter Ngugi, George Muiruri and Joseph Murimi.

Police who were escorting the suspects said they were in the driver’s compartment when the suspects drank the chang’aa.

Police say upon reaching the prison, and going to the back of the van to open the door for the suspects, they found all of them lying unconscious.

The four were rushed to Saba Saba Health Centre after Murang’a Prison administrators refused to have them remanded in the facility in that state.

DRUNKEN STUPOR

They were later transferred to Maragua Sub-County Hospital for further treatment.

By Tuesday afternoon, doctors at the medical facility said three of the four patients were still unconscious.

In August, dramatic scenes played outside the Kibera Law after six suspects scheduled to appear in court blacked out from an alleged alcohol intoxication.

Pictures and videos aired by NTV captured the suspects sprawled on the ground in a drunken stupor.

Some police officers could be seen trying to prop them to walk, but the suspects were unconscious to respond to any probing.

Musician Nameless claims his wife, Wahu Kagwi, has been very stubborn ever since she joined ‘millionaire’s club’ on social media.

In a playful Instagram post, Nameless – real name David Mathenge – ranted how things have been tough for him in his house after Wahu hit the 1 million followers mark on social media.

Wahu’s new ‘attitude’, he claims, is because he is yet to achieve that impressive milestone.

“Musidanganywe na hii picha…ever since afike 1million followers before me @wahukagwi amekuwa sumbua sana kwa nyumba🤦🏽♂.. kichwa kimefura, hakukaliki kwa boma,” Nameless captioned a photo of the celebrity couple.

He then went on to make a plea to his followers to make him reach that mark.

Two Nairobians file petition in court to stop construction of Sh65b Expressway

Two residents of Nairobi on Tuesday filed a petition in court seeking to stop the planned construction of a multi-billion shillings expressway linking Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and Westlands.

The two petitioners, Rhoda Aoko and Henry Shitanda, argue that the project is founded on illegality since there was no public participation as required by the law.

ILLEGALITY

“The project as it stands is founded on illegality and contravenes the fundamental principles and national values of the constitution of Kenya of transparency, openness, the involvement of the people and public participation,” read court papers.

The design negotiations, structures, and planning of the highway were done in secrecy, in an opaque manner and without the participation of the members of the public, the two further claim.

Aoko and Shitanda also accuse the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA)of ignoring their letter dated November 21st, 2019.

They said the agency failed to respond to the letter in which they were requesting it to carry out public participation and involve the people.

The project was launched in October 2019 by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

According to KeNHA, the construction will see an area of 1.3 acres and 23 meters situated along Uhuru Highway hived off from Uhuru Park, a section which the government said is public land.

CONGESTION

Once constructed, the Nairobi expressway is expected to reduce congestion in the Nairobi Central Business district and improve economic activities in the city.

The Sh59 billion project, which will be financed under the public-private partnership (PPP), will commence at Mlolongo and head to JKIA all the way to James Gichuru road.

The first phase of the project will involve the construction of four lanes at ground level from Mlolongo to the Eastern Bypass junction (City-Cabanas), covering 10 kilometers in total.

The second stretch of tarmac will meanwhile incorporate six lanes at ground level to the Southern-Bypass Interchange (Ole-Sereni) extending the highway by a further five kilometers.

Other major road networks that are set to be financed under the Public Private Partnerships model are the Nairobi – Mombasa expressway and the Nairobi- Nakuru Mau summit highway.

Passengers aboard the Kenya Airways Flight KQ887 that jetted into the country Tuesday morning from Guangzhou are being monitored following their last known contact with the patient suspected of having the coronavirus.

Acting Director General at the Ministry of Health Dr Patrick Amoth said that through a contact tracing system they have identified and followed up with persons who may came into contact with the patient.

He said that they have since been advised to be on the lookout for symptoms such as fever, cough or difficulty in breathing.

“Through continuous communication with Kenya Airways we have asked that they give us the passenger manifest and sent alerts to all passengers to present themselves to the nearest facility should they exhibit any symptoms,” he said.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO) all close contacts should be monitored for 21 days following their last known exposure to the case, and be isolated if they become ill.

The deadly virus originating from the Chinese city of Wuhan has put the country on high alert with the port health services conducting screening and monitoring of transportation links of passengers.

SCREENING

The Head of Port Health Services at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Mr Benjamin Murkomen said that screening of flights from China on arrival is mandatory and passengers are provided with a face mask the entire trip.

“There are two flights coming in from China every day and we have trained our team to isolate any passenger who has any of the symptoms as we their temperature with thermal scanners,” he said.

Kenya Airways and the China Southern Airlines flights arrive at the airport at around 6am and patients are required to offer information regarding their travel history as well as address and telephone numbers should the need to track them arise.

Mr Murkomen said that disinfectants, hand sanitizers and surgical masks are being supplied on all China flights and that aircraft disinfection protocol has been put in place for flights where suspected cases may be reported.

Two people died on Wednesday morning after their canter lorry hit a trailer at Migaa near Salgaa town along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.

According to police at the scene, the canter, which was carrying maize, was headed to Nakuru from Eldoret when the accident happened.

Confirming the accident, Officer in Charge of Traffic in Molo James Gatara said the canter had three occupants – the driver, a turnboy and the owner of the maize.

“This morning at around 5am a canter lorry lost its brakes and hit the rear of a trailer. Unfortunately the driver of the canter and the owner of the maize died on the spot while the injured turnboy was rushed to the Molo GSU dispensary,” said Mr Gatara.

He further said that while responding to the emergency, a county fire engine also lost its brakes and rammed into the rear of the canter, seriously injuring one of the fire crew.

“The deceased have been taken to Molo Hospital Mortuary and we urge drivers to be keen on the road and Alai make use of the crashing zones built along the highway in case of such eventualities,” he said.

Kimemia: Uhuru will be in next govt to represent Mt Kenya interests

Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia now says President Uhuru Kenyatta is too young to retire after serving his second term, claiming that the President will be part of the next government to represent the interests of the Central Kenya region.

Governor Kimemia said Central Kenya must be represented in the next government, and the best person for the position was Mr Kenyatta.

He spoke at Kipipiri Stadium in Nyandarua when he disbursed Sh60 million World Bank-funded Climate Smart Agriculture Programme to farmer groups from Kipipiri, Ndaragua, and Kinangop Constituencies.

“Let us not forget the sufferings subjected to us in the past. Our economy and cash crops collapsed because we had no one at the negotiating table. We should have one of our own in the government to take care of our interests,” said the county boss.

TEN COUNTIES

Governor Kimemia, who also chairs the 10 counties under the Central Kenya Economic Bloc, said the 10 governors were solidly behind the Building Bridges Initiative and the president.

“The 10 governors have resolved to work with the President, support him in the BBI initiative and stand with him in uniting Kenyans, implementing the Big Four and in fighting corruption. We must never forget how corruption has affected Kenyans and mostly Central Kenya Community, The President wants to leave a legacy on these issues and we as governors have resolved to support him,” said the governor.

He castigated politicians from Central Kenya region attacking the President and claiming that he never visits the region, saying the head of state has initiated many development projects.

“The most important thing is what he is doing for us, not just the physical presence. We feel his presence through development projects he has initiated, a lot of developments including roads, water and electricity are ongoing in Central Kenya and only a blind person can pretend not to see,” said Mr Kimemia.

He also revealed that the President holds regular consultations with the region leadership, meetings that culminated in some of the undertaken development and Presidential directives issued a few weeks from Mombasa State House in favour of tea, coffee, dairy and horticultural farming.

“The revival of Nyahururu Town KCC plant is a milestone and more industries are coming our way including the potato processing plant for Nyandarua,” said Mr Kimemia.

Residents of Nakuru county should expect an economic boost in the days ahead after President Uhuru Kenyatta opened a cement factory worth Sh5.8bilion at Salgaa.

The Head of State on Tuesday, launched Simba Cement Factory which is a huge boost to the construction sector in the area as well as providing employment opportunities for hundreds of locals in the area.

Speaking at the launch, President Kenyatta affirmed that government was focused in bringing on board more factories in the region.

He said the government is committed to continue empowering modern firms by enabling them to benefit from Kenyan products which are gaining increasing demand in the international market.

AFFORDABLE

Moreover, the president urged companies in the construction sector to take advantage of the available affordable cement offered by the plant to upscale their businesses.

Devki Group chairperson Narendra Raval said his company was selling cement for Sh530 in Nakuru and its environ down from the initial price of Sh750.

Moreover, the company revealed that it was working with Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) to set up a Sh300 milion cancer centre as part of its corporate socially responsibility.

Woodward has been a target of offensive chanting by United fans in recent matches due to his role in the club’s declining fortunes on the field over the past seven years.

In a statement, United said: “We know that the football world will unite behind us as we work with Greater Manchester Police to identify the perpetrators of this unwarranted attack.

“Anybody found guilty of a criminal offence or found to be trespassing on this property will be banned for life by the club and may face prosecution.

“Fans expressing opinion is one thing, criminal damage and intent to endanger life is another. There is imply no excuse for this.”

A video released on social media showed a flare being thrown over the gate to Woodward’s Cheshire home.

According to the Daily Mirror the attack was carried out by a group of 20-30 balaclava-clad United fans.
