Kenya performed dismally at the Gwangju Universiade Games in South Korea that ended on Tuesday failing to clinch any medal.

Kenya was represented at the games by nine participants and was hoping to win medals in the long distance races and in the marathon.

Among the team members was Edwin Kibichy, a student at Lowville University in Kentucky, who competed in the 3,000m steeplechase, Faith Keitany (5,000m) and Mark Lokwanamoie (half marathon).

Also in the team was lawn tennis player and Business IT student from the Strathmore University, Nairobi Evelyn Noah, who recently qualified for the All Africa Games at the national trials.

The Kenyan team’s head of delegation Mr. Walter Onyango called for greater effort to give prominence to university games in the country.

“University sports in Kenya is quite expansive because we have a whole range of events we are focusing on. Previously much of our participation has been in the national federation events but we have started doing university leagues and competitions with an aim of getting more exposure at the regional and continental,” Onyango said.

Couple takes wedding photos in a coffin

A Singaporean couple took a pre-wedding photo shoot to a new level after taking photos inside a coffin in honour of their undertaker jobs.

Jenny Tay and Darren Cheng, both undertakers, said death plays a central and important part in their lives hence its incorporation in the photo shoot.

“A large part of the shoot was definitely inspired by our jobs,” Ms Tay told the BBC during an interview.

The bride is also the daughter of one of Singapore’s most famous undertakers and has also written a children’s book about dealing with death.

“Wedding shoots are often staged at places which bring the most memories. For us, work plays such a huge part of our lives so we wanted to do it in style,” said Ms Tay.

Wedding photo shoots in Singapore are traditionally taken by many local couples ahead of their banquets. The couple’s wedding is set for October this year.

TALK ABOUT DEATH

The photo shoot was staged in a waterway park in Singapore and was initiated by the bride who said death is part of life and should not be viewed as taboo.

“We wanted it to be pretty and whimsical, not at all morbid, so we staged it there and not in an actual cemetery,” Ms Tay explained.

The photo shoot to an entire day under what the couple termed as ‘very hot’ weather but they say they never intended to scare anyone.

“It’s important to talk about death; it’s part and parcel of everyone’s life. Many Asian societies often portray it negatively – we hope to be able to debunk that taboo by encouraging people to be open about death,” said Ms Tay.

The couple said they will however not display the coffin photos during their wedding so as not to disrespect any of their guests.

“Everyone has different opinions and it’s not possible for everyone to share the same line of thought as us,” she explained, adding that the couple will feature a set of “assassin-themed” wedding photographs taken in Japan instead.

A Star Wars-themed wedding shoot and another one based on the zombie apocalypse are some of the other creative shoots done by Singaporean couples.

For his efforts, Nzigiyimana received a 45-inch flat screen TV, a personalized trophy and Sh 50, 000 cash prize.

Nzigiyimana was awarded at the club’s office at the Nyayo National Stadium shortly before the team departed for Dar es Salaam, where they will compete in the Kagame Cecafa Club Championships.

The players admitted that the award came as a surprise to him.

“I did not expect this at all. This is the first time in my career that I have received a personal reward. I have always thought that individual awards are a preserve of strikers,” Nzigiyimana said.

“This will now motivate me to work even harder so that I can also get recognized in the end of year awards,” he added.

Karim, who joined K’Ogalo at the beginning of the season from Rwandan side Rayon Sports, fended off competition from his team mate Michael Olunga, Mathare United midfielder Eric Johanna, Ulinzi Stars striker Kevin Amwayi and Allan Katerrega from Ushuru.

K’OGALO UPBEAT

Nzigiyimana becomes the fourth winner of the award after Ali Hassan Abondo (Gor), John Makwatta (Ulinzi Stars) and goalkeeper Gabriel Andika (Western Stima) won the March, April and May awards respectively.

Meanwhile, an upbeat Gor Mahia left the country for Dar es Salaam, Tanzania with a promise to their fans of an improved performance at the Cecafa Club Championships.

The team’s flight departed Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 2:45pm and touched down in Dar at 5pm.

Team captain Musa Mohammed told journalists and fans who saw them off at JKIA that the team is determined to prove a point at the regional tournament.

“We are determined to reach the finals. There has been alot of talk discrediting our performance in the league, now we have an opportunity to prove the skeptics wrong,” Mohammed said.

Assistant coach Frank Ouna was however modest on the team’s expectations, saying the team will be up against strong opponents.

“Every team in the tournament is a champion in their own countries, and so it will not be easy. In our first game, for example, we be against hosts Yanga, who will have overwhelming home advantage. We shall however give our best and hope for good results,” Ouna told Daily Nation Sport.

The team’s travelling party includes 23 players and 10 members of the technical bench. Gor Mahia is in Group A alongside hosts Yanga, Al Khartoum (Sudan), KMKM (Uganda), and Djibouti’s Telecom. Their opening match will be on Saturday against Yanga.

Two women have been caught on camera in the latest incident of broad daylight theft at a café in the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

CCTV footage of the incident has been circulated widely via social media in an attempt to help recover the stolen filming equipment and ensure the female thieves are located and arrested.

The equipment was stolen from two Americans who were shooting a production locally and among the stolen items is a 2x Nikon D3 camera, Nikkor 14-24 , 24-70 and 70-200 lenses along with a Sigma 50 lens.

Another Sony NEX-5N camera and a 2.5″ WD Elements 2GB grey hard drive with a lot of wedding photos and a 2.5″ Seagate 2GB grey hard drive with 2 weddings photos and video by Phantom drone along with a Sandisk CF memory 3×16 and 32 GB with photos from another wedding were also stolen.

In a message circulated on Facebook with the CCTV footage the owners requested that members of the public help them recover the photos and videos as they are most important bearing wonderful wedding memories of couples.

In the CCTV footage, the two can be seen entering the café and siting strategically at a table next to one occupied by two whites.

The women seem to be working with one male companion who comes in seconds after them but moves on to sit further away.

VICTIMS DISTRACTED

After one of the women wakes up and moves to the exit as if making a call, the male accomplice then comes to the table where the women are then moments later leaves the table.

He walks towards the entrance and poses as if making a call then one of the women can be seen retrieving a phone from her bag then going on to receive a call from it.

As the woman talks on phone the other woman grabs a bag pack placed near the foreigner’s table as the two seem distracted and not concentrating on the safety of their bag.

She then passes it under the table for the other woman, who by now has finished talking on phone and she exits with the bag.

Shortly after her the other woman leaves the café and all that while the owners of the stolen items seem not to have noticed the missing bag.

The footage gives a clear illustration of how Nairobi thieves are now distracting their victims with back and forth calls before robbing them of their valuables.

Zawadi Nyong'o

Lupita Nyong’o’s elder sister Zawadi on Thursday took to twitter to express her anger after a reveler asked if she was the Oscar winner’s mother.

Zawadi was attending a music show by Malian singer and bass player Moussa Diallo at the Tribe hotel during which her father Kisumu senator, Anyang’ Nyong’o even took to the floor to dance to the African hits.

The social entrepreneur narrated how the lovely evening with her father was rudely interrupted when a lady approached her and asked if she was Lupita’s mother.

“I asked her if I looked that old to her. She said, no no it’s because you look alike. So that makes me her mother? NKT I need a T-shirt ASAP,” tweeted Zawadi.

She went on to describe how she still has not gotten used to being referred to as Lupita’s sister and now she is being mistaken for her mother, Dorothy.

Zawadi lamented about the attention that comes with being a relative of an award winning actress joking of how she was contemplating relocating to a remote village in India as she never signed up for publicity.

#LUPITA’S SISTER

“As in not a single day goes by, no matter where I am (hospital, market, restaurant, street, gym, you name it) without being asked…Not 1,” she tweeted.

A spot check on Zawadi’s tweets on being Lupita’s sister revealed that in posts dating as back as 2013 she has always being uncomfortable with people having to ask her about her sister.

In April 2013 she tweeted, “I pray that one day I can just be seen as Zawadi, an individual. Not #NyongosDaughter or #LupitasSister. Sigh. I am tired.”

She went on in another tweet, “Should I just add #LupitasSister to my twitter bio to avoid further questions? *throws hands up* LQTM.”

At some point in June last year she tweeted, “Yes, I’m #LupitasSister. No, I’m not Lupita’s agent. Folks need to stop calling me. It’s really frustrating.”

Zawadi lives in Nairobi and runs a yoga project and is an accomplished author having written a book on sexual rights in East Africa titled ‘When I dare to be powerful’.

Mount Kenya University top administrators unveil the MKU Digital Bus at the institution's Thika Main Campus.

Mount Kenya University (MKU) has unveiled a “digital bus” that the school management says will revolutionize student transport in Kenya.

The 62-seater bus, acquired at a cost of Sh15 million, is fitted with high speed wireless internet, secondary charging ports for digital devices and interconnected TV screens to enable students carry on their studies “on the go”.

While commissioning the bus at Thika Main Campus on Thursday, the university Vice-Chancellor Prof Stanley Waudo said MKU was pace-setting in delivery of quality education programmes.

He said this was a bold step towards embracing online learning.

“In future, the number of students applying for online courses will be at par with those who physically attend classes,” said Prof Waudo.

“We want to ensure our students are well-entertained and informed especially while commuting to and from academic trips.”

Student Council President Simon Kimani thanked the university chairman Dr Simon Gicharu for continuous commitment to improving the infrastructure, which has created a conducive learning environment.

Yet another project initiated by Embakasi West Member of Parliament Hon George Theuri has been vandalized. This follows the destruction of the Umoja 2 Zone 8 Youth Group labour office on Tuesday night by unknown people.

Mr Theuri, who is known for meeting his constituents every week to monitor his projects, is now reading sabotage by his political detractors.

“For how long will these acts go on? You wake up in the morning and the structures you had put up to help the local youths have been flattened,” Mr Theuri lamented.

This is the third time in as many months that CDF projects initiated by the youthful MP have been targeted for destruction in what is believed to be as a result of bitter rivalry between Mr. Theuri and an MCA in the constituency.

Last month rowdy youths demonstrated and demolished a borehole next Unity Primary School in Nairobi’s Umoja Innercore estate. Three people were arrested and charged in court connection with the incident.

Senator Mike Sonko’s quest for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat will overcome a big obstacle on Saturday when he graduates from the Kenya Methodist University with a degree in Business administration.

Though still publicly coy about his ambition for the governor’s seat, Senator Sonko has been gearing up to replace Governor Evans Kidero.

“I want to tell my constituents and Kenyans in general that I’m not graduating coz (sic) I want to become the Nairobi Governor. I’m not graduating coz (sic) I want to please voters in Nairobi to vote for me. This is not the time to ask for elective seats or votes. This is the time to focus on service delivery to the people,” the Senator  said in a Facebook post on Thursday.

Not even a congratulatory message from his political arch-rival Governor Kidero could mask the rivalry between the two politicians for the top seat.

PROUD OF YOU

Writing on Facebook on Thursday, Governor Kidero said: “Congratulations are in order Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko as you prepare to graduate tomorrow! You have walked a long way to reach this goal. You are truly an inspiration and demonstration to all that hard work and dedication does pay. We are very proud of you and well done!”

The two leaders have often traded public accusations, the last of which saw the Governor accuse the Senator of involvement in drug trafficking.

ANTI-GRAFT CAMPAIGN

As part of his campaign strategy, Senator Sonko has initiated an anti-corruption campaign against Governor Kidero in Nairobi and at one point even addressed the County Assembly where he purported to table evidence on the same.

“Now nobody can stop me from vying for the governor’s position. I will be graduating and embark on my plans to save Nairobi from corruption,” he said in a previous interview.

Sofapaka, Tusker clash in weekend’s big match

Sofapaka and Tusker will cross swords on Saturday afternoon at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos in the highlight match of the weekend as the Kenyan Premier League action enters round 19.

This should be an explosive contest going by the pedigree of both sides. Coach Francis Kimanzi of Tusker despite his team’s 5-1 mauling of Chemelil Sugar in their last match is still under pressure to make ground for the brewers’ dismal run in the first leg.

In terms of depth, Sam Timbe’s Sofapaka have been weakened by the departure of four key players at the end of the first leg.

Danger man Fiston Abdoul left the Batoto Ba Mungu for Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa, while the energetic Enoch Agwanda has found a new home at Gor Mahia, while Danson Kago and Elli Asieche decamped to Tusker and KCB respectively.

The absence of these players was clear in Sofapaka’s 2-0 loss to KCB in their last fixture. This was a shock outcome given that the bankers have had a horrendous run thus far in the campaign.

“We did not play well against KCB. The exit of several of our key players has affected us. The new players are yet to gel, they need time to get to the rhythm,” Timbe said after the team’s defeat to KCB.

The Ugandan coach expects an equally tough match against Tusker.

“We expect a tough match (against Tusker) but our is always to win,” he said.

CLOSE THE GAP

Dutch trained Kimanzi is likely to unleash Kago on his former employers. On a good day, the youngster can be quite a handful for defenders and if he starts he will certainly be motivated by the prospect of facing his former side.

In other matches, Ulinzi Stars, after beating Nairobi City Stars 2-0 last weekend to move to position two on the log, will be out to build on their current repertoire when they play hosts to Ken Kenyatta’s Ushuru at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.

Maximum points will see the four-time champions trim Gor Mahia’s lead to nine points. K’Ogalo are in Dar es Salaam, Tanzanian for the Kagame Cecafa Club Championships.

With Gor Mahia likely to be away for up to 20 days, should they go all the way to the finals, this is a golden opportunity for chasing pack to close the gap.

On Sunday, Nairobi City Stars will up against AFC Leopards at the Nyayo National Stadium after Mathare United tackle Thika United at the same venue from 2pm.

City Stars have for long been a thorn in the flesh of Ingwe and buoyed by the Sh 81 million sponsorship from German firm PM International, they will be keen to get their first win in their new kits.

KPL Fixtures – Saturday:

Ulinzi Stars v Ushuru (Afraha-3pm)

Sunday:

Davido being investigated over drug trafficking video

Nigerian musician David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, is being investigated by the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency over a music video that depicts a drug trafficking cartel.

The video, titled ‘Fans Mi’, was released early last month and features American rapper and Maybach Music Group artist Meek Mill.

It is being investigated for promoting the economic benefits of drug trafficking. The anti-drugs agency has formed a panel that will probe the content of the video.

The director of public affairs of the NDLEA, Mr Mitchell Ofoyeju, told the ‘Sunday Punch’ newspaper that the panel may at some stage consider summoning the hip-hop artiste for questioning.

NO MORAL LESSON

“When our attention was drawn to it (the Fans Mi music video), we viewed it and we discovered that it was improper. There is no moral lesson in it and he was just advertising drug trafficking.

“In the video, he exchanged a briefcase supposedly containing narcotics for dollars. He was displaying affluence in the video.

“If it (the plot) had climaxed in an arrest and possible detention, we would have congratulated him for partnering with us. But the way he portrayed drug trafficking in the video was a means to an end, which the end is a life of affluence which we disagree with,” said Mr Ofoyeju.

The musician faces the prospect of being imprisoned for 25 years or being fined 2 million Naira according to the Nigerian law.

Mr Ofoyeju added that the agency will conduct a full-scale investigation into the making of the video and to confirm whether it was censored before its release.

CENSOR VIDEOS

“We believe that there should be a body that is supposed to censor videos before they go out. Those are the things we want to investigate and verify. Was the video submitted for approval? If it was submitted, why was it approved with such content?” he said.

In the music video, Davido seals a deal with a businessman who gives him millions of dollars in exchange of a briefcase containing what looks like narcotics.

Davido then goes to his mansion for a semovita, a popular Nigerian meal made using flour .

The businessman samples a sachet of the narcotics sold to him by Davido, only to realize it was the semovita flour.

The video ends with Davido smiling while eating his semovita meal, as the businessman gets irked at the discovery that he got played.

Deal struck to hive off 216 acres from Nairobi national park

The National Land Commission (NLC) says it has struck a deal with Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) to have the Standard Gauge Railway pass through Nairobi national park.

The deal settles the standoff between Kenyan Railways and KWS on the path of the new railway.

Under the deal, Kenya Railways will carve out 216 acres from Nairobi national park. But while only half of the 216 acres will be used for the actual rail, the other half will be cut off from the park making it unusable for the animals.

HUGE COMPENSATIONS

The alternative would have been for the corporation to pay huge compensations to buy out industries and residential estates in Mlolongo and Athi River.

The land commission and KWS are set to sign the agreement Friday afternoon at the latter’s headquarters in Langata.

The idea to take over 0.75 per cent of the park, which has been termed critical, was mooted by the land commission after it was established that there is no money to compensate high-value properties affected by the current route.

Kenya Railways, according to the terms of the deals,  has committed to look for an alternative piece of land to compensate for the loss of the wildlife habitat.

TRAIN SPEEDS

In a supplementary environmental impact report for the proposed 11.6 kilometre stretch, the corporation says the change in the rail route will also help the line avoid too many curves which will affect train speeds.

Kenya Railways had said that if the route is not changed, multiple industries and residential properties would have been affected.

These include Bamburi Cement, Devki Steel Mills, Athi River Steel Plant, Kapa Oil Refineries, Orbit Chemicals, Muthama Heights Estate, Kenya Meat Commission, ISL Kenya and Murumbi African Heritage House, among others.

A similar proposal by the Kenya National Highways Authority (Kenha), which wants to excise 89 acres from the national park for the Southern bypass, has received strong opposition from environmentalists who are concerned on the disruption wildlife habitat.

Regional bragging rights at stake as glamour clubs Gor, Yanga face off

Gor Mahia and Young Africans of Tanzania, the two clubs that command the biggest following in the regional, will face off on Saturday afternoon when the Cecafa Club Championship kicks off at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The match will be a clash of two teams that boast of numerous domestic and regional titles, although the Kenyan team will bear the underdogs tag considering that their opponent will enjoy tremendous support from their partisan fans as well as home advantage.

K’Ogalo also have an awful recent track record in international competitions. Last year Gor Mahia was eliminated from the competition in the group stages without winning a single match.

But if the old saying about a team reflecting the coach’s personality is true, then the K’Ogalo should approach their opening encounter without trepidation.

“Every team is here because they are champions in their own countries. Like them, we are a strong team and at the end of it all we shall see who is strongest,” coach Frank Nuttall told Daily Nation Sport on Friday before taking the team through the final training session.

On assumption that his team must beat Yanga in today’s match to have a real chance of making it past the group stages, Nuttall conceded that they would indeed be content with a draw.

ULTIMATE PRIZE

“This is not a knock out tournament. We have three matches to play in the group stages so any result can be corrected after the first match. Yanga are chasing the ultimate prize and they have the home advantage. Although the opening match is always crucial, a draw won’t be a bad result for us,” Nuttall said.

Nuttall has already warned his back four of Karim Nizigiyimana, Harun Shakava, Abouba Sibomana and Musa Mohammed of the aerial threat that Yanga captain Nadir “Cannavaro” Haroub poses.

Nuttall is also hopeful that Ali Abondo will not be as muted as he was during K’Ogalo’s last league match against Mathare United, and that striker Michael Olunga’s partnership with Meddie Kagere will be as lethal as it has been in the Kenyan league.

Meanwhile, Yanga assistant coach Boniface Mkwasa conceded that he will approach the match with caution keeping in mind the fact that K’Ogalo has a sparkling 2015 record in the KPL.

“The match is going to be tough. I have been following Gor Mahia closely and I know that they are unbeaten back at home. We shall therefore be cautious in our approach, but we are determined to win this match,” he said.

The last time the two teams met in this tournament was in 1996 when they were drawn in the same group. They drew 1-1 in the match and K’Ogalo won 4-0 in the playoffs later in the tournament.

Probable Lineup

Gor Mahia: Bonface Oluoch, Karim Nizigiyimana, Musa Mohammed, Harun Shakava, Abouba Sibomana, Khalid Aucho, Collins Okoth, Ali Abondo, Godfrey Walusimbi, Meddie Kagere, Michael Olunga

Yanga: Ali Mustapha, Juma Abdul, Haji Mwinyi, Nadir Haroub, Kavin Yondan, Mbuyu Twitte, Simon Msuva, Haruna Niyonzima, Amis Tambwe, Donald Ngoma, Geoffrey Mwashiuya

Muslims defy Chief Kadhi to mark end of Ramadhan

A section of Muslims in Kenya on Friday defied the Chief Kadhi to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadhan and celebrate Idd-ul-Fitr.

In Mombasa, the faithful flocked at various mosques and open grounds for prayers marking the beginning of their Idd celebrations.

In Nakuru County, Muslims held joint prayers to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadhan and pledged to join hands in the fight against terror.

Hundreds of Muslims congregated at Tononoka grounds on Friday morning where clerics, Sheikh Abu Hamza and Sheikh Abu Qatadah led the prayers.

This is despite Chief Kadhi’s, Sheikh Ahmed Muhdhar’s Thursday announcement to Muslims that the celebration should be on Saturday because the moon had not been sighted as expected.

Thursday night, Sheikh Muhdhar officially announced that the Idd celebration would be marked on Saturday, a day that coincides with the government public holiday.

Speaking after Idd prayer sermons, Sheikh Qatadah said they decided to mark the celebration because there is only one moon and it was sighted elsewhere.

“We have decided to hold the prayers today just because we have other countries like Saudia Arabia who are also celebrating, but apart from that it is because of our knowledge differences,” he said.

Sheikh Qatadah, however wished those who are still fasting a happy Idd-ul-Fitr as they celebrate on Saturday.

FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM

Addressing the press after the prayers in Nakuru, County Commissioner Mohammed Birik, former mayor Mohammed Surraw said that Islam faith is based on peace, love and respect for humanity – virtues that need to be upheld every time.

Mr Birik said that it was important for Muslims across the country to report any suspicious characters among them as this would help security agencies in averting terror activities.

Meanwhile, Kenya Assembly of Ulammah, Secretary-General, Sheikh Badru Khamis together with Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) chairman, Sheikh Muhdhar Khitamy criticised those who defied the Chief Kadhi.

They pointed out that the moon was not sighted in any of the East African countries and thus those who decided to mark the celebrations on Friday did so prematurely.

“We neither sighted the moon nor did we receive any communication. According to our teachings it is clear that we have to sight the moon for us to conclude the holy month of Ramadhan,” Sheikh Badru said.

He said that they are ready to call an international conference to discuss on the matters regarding the celebrations because many Muslims are always misled on the issue during Ramadhan.

The Chief Kadhi usually urges Muslims to rely on the physical sighting of the moon, as per Islamic laws, to signal the start of Idd celebrations.

SuperSport, Azam TV battle goes to Cecafa

TV broadcast turf wars have spilled over to the Kagame Cacafa Club Championship following reports that SuperSport has bypassed on the opportunity to televise some of the matches in the tournament from the Chamazi grounds in Dar es Salaam.

According to reports from Tanzania, regional football body Cecafa had identified the Chamazi grounds – which is home to local side Azam FC – to stage some of the matches of the annual tournament, but SuperSport are said to be concerned by the heavy branding of Tanzanian Pay TV Azam at the venue.

Sources have told Nairobi News that SuperSport’s crew is concerned that televising matches at Chamazi grounds would inadvertently market their media rivals.

INCREASING COMPETITION

“SuperSport is categorical, they are not keen on working from the Chamazi grounds, which is understandable. The venue has Azam logos all over, so the stadium will not be hosting any matches,” our sources revealed.

Other venues primed to host the matches are the Karume Stadium, plus the 60,000 seater National Stadium.

The Cecafa stand off is the latest predicament for SuperSport who are facing increasing competition from Azam for sports broadcast rights in the region, having lost the battle to televise the Ugandan league to the Tanzanian firm.

Azam has also infiltrated Kenyan football, which for the last several years has been monopolized by the South African company.

The two-week long Cecafa Kagame Club Championship featuring 13 teams drawn from 10 East and Central African nations, begins on Saturday in Dar es Salaam with Gor Mahia as Kenya’s flag-bearers.

Gospel music artiste Bahati

Gospel artist Kevin Kioko popularly known as Bahati on Thursday honoured the wish of a terminally ill 12-year-old and visited her at the hospital.

The girl’s mother had written an emotional ‘Barua’ to the hit maker on his Facebook page desperately calling for the gospel sensation to make the cancer patient’s wish come true by visiting and praying for her.

The single leg amputee standard six pupil who has been at the Kenyatta National Hospital since January this year had hoped to become an artist and dancer when she grows up and the doctor’s message that her cancer was in its final stage prompted her to ask her mother to make the passionate appeal.

In her request, the mother told Bahati that the ailing girl had been looking up to him for mentorship once she is ready to become an artist but now needed his prayers.

ADOPTED CHILDREN

Bahati honoured the request and proceeded to the hospital barely a week after the message was posted on his page.

On Thursday, he shared photos of an elated girl armed with her crutches posing for photos with him at the hospital.

She was visibly elated to have met her all-time hero and mentor and she donned an outfit from Bahati’s fashion-line with a matching fancy cap.

The girl even managed to pull a smile despite her pain and agony as she did the popular peace sign while posing for photos with the artist.

The Barua hit maker has a soft-spot for children having grown up at a children’s home after his mother passed on.

He has even adopted three children who are under the care of the same ABC Children’s Home, Kariobangi that raised him.

The slain suspected was part of a three-man gang that was terrorizing members of the public outside the depot.

Police Spokesperson Zipporah Mboroki said police officers who were tipped off by members of the public on the robbery rushed to the scene where they engaged the gang in exchange of fire after they defied orders to surrender.

She said the officers gunned down one of the gangsters while two others managed to escape towards the sewerage area.

“The Officers recovered a homemade pistol, two rounds of ammunition and a kitchen knife at the scene,” Mboroki said.

She said the body of the dead gangster, whom Shauri Moyo residents termed as a dangerous criminal, was taken to the City Mortuary.

A husband, I am told, is a gem; hard to find but easy to lose. You never know. This town is full of hungry Pretty Young Things (PYTs) who are lying in wait, hoping to catch your husband’s eye and snatch him from you.

Lucky for you, today, I am in a good mood and I will give you tips on how to protect your husband from all those conniving PYTs.

I have a foolproof strategy that if followed to the letter, will give you great results. Without wasting much space, here is a married woman’s guide to marking her territory.

Parade him on social media: You and your hubby are both on social media and there are very many young city girls who want to befriend him, follow him on Twitter and Instagram to catch his eye. Don’t worry about those little dimwits. I’ll show you how to conquer competition.

Parade him on social media. Post photos of you and your husband and children in a very happy mood to show us what a happy marriage you have. Photos of you holidaying in Dubai work perfectly.

Tag him in all those photos and show the rest of us what a solid marriage you have. On his birthday, take some time off your busy schedule of staying at home doing absolutely nothing and pay a tribute to him on social media.

Wedding anniversaries are no different. I want to see more wedding photos when you were half the size you are and barely recognisable.

An illusion of a happy marriage is all you need to scare off those shameless PYTs who think they can just SMS your husband anytime of the night.

Public Display of Affection: Social media display of affection barely scratches the surface. Call him ‘baby’ at the sight of competition. Doesn’t matter if you haven’t called him ‘baby’ since the real baby came in, just call him to show those PYTs who’s in charge.

When you go to a party, ensure the other women know that your man is taken by none other than you. Show those little PYTs, those lusty libertines, that you are the mistress of the manor.

It doesn’t matter if the marriage is going through a rough patch and normally, behind closed doors, you wouldn’t come 10 metres close to him.

The idea here is to put up a show for others to know that you are stronger than ever. Afterwards, you can slide back to your cold war.

Call them incessantly: During the day, squeeze some time between your busy stay-at-home-mom schedule to call your husband incessantly. You are just checking up on him; you should say.

Finding out how he is doing in the office; you know, working hard for the family. Flood his phone with a barrage of SMS and WhatsApp messages.

Call him over lunch and in the evening. Just to make sure he is not perched up on a loft somewhere with a PYT. The idea here is to keep tabs where he is and what he is doing. You just never know.

Back to social media: I forgot something. Comment and ‘like’ every photo he posts on social media. Be the self-appointed commenter-in-chief of all his photos.

Let the others know who took that picture and where you were. And especially how much fun you had that day and what a beautiful day you had.

Even in your WhatsApp profile photo, let the whole world know what a happily married woman you are. Then sit back as you watch the PYTs fade in the background. One by one.
