Police have launched investigations on Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria over inflammatory remarks he made on Sunday in Nairobi.

The MP was caught on video calling for the assassination of Opposition leader Raila Odinga. The video has gone viral on social media.

He made the remarks during a thanksgiving service for a veteran radio presenter at Safaricom indoor stadium, Kasarani.

Police have also launched investigations on remarks made by Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu at the same event.

Mr Kuria has a pending case for incitement to violence after he urged some of his constituents in 2015 to slash opponents of the National Youth Services programmes with machetes.

He was released on bail.

Cord on Monday called for the prosecution of Mr Kuria over his Sunday’s remarks.

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) chairman Francis Ole Kaparo has said that Mr Kuria and his Bahati counterpart Kimani Ngunjiri will be summoned this week to answer to charges of hate speech.

Addressing a media briefing on Monday, Mr Kaparo said that he will ask the courts to cancel Mr Kuria’s bail on the incitement to violence case.

Kenyans camped on Twitter on Monday morning to express their displeasure at the MP’s remarks.

Raila Junior brilliantly shuts down hatemonger Moses Kuria

Raila Junior, son of the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, mixed fun with wisdom as he responded to a video that shows controversial Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria allegedly call for the assassination of his father.

Mr Kuria was caught telling an exuberant church congregation in his Kikuyu dialect that “shoot the man (Raila Odinga) for once and Luos will throw stones for one week and forget him once and for all”.

But in a swift rejoinder on his Facebook account, Raila Jr, wrote: “We wish to inform you that tomorrow we will be killed with our families.’ Philip Gourevitch I’d like to buy Moses Kuria that book.”

WhatsApp-Image-20160613

Gourevitch, a staff writer for the New Yorker, penned the chilling book after spending nearly a year in Rwanda interviewing government officials, hotel managers, doctors, army officers, relief workers, United Nations “peacekeepers”, victims and perpetrators for the 1994 genocide.

An estimated 800,000 people were killed in the space of 100 days.

Raila’s son also offered Mr Kuria some sobering lessons on the genocide in Rwanda, saying: “…and Pay for his return air ticket to the genocide memorial in Kigali… Ask him to send me his preferred travel dates and to act like a leader for once. Every time Moses Kuria trends national unity depreciates a little more.”

The post has been shared tens of times.

Five policemen and a civilian were arraigned at a Thika court on Monday over an attempt to extort Sh1 million from a member of the public.

Chief Magistrate Theresa Murigi denied a request by the five suspects to be released on bond

The magistrate ordered that the five be remanded until Wednesday when they will be again arraigned in court.

Separately, a police officer was charged with possession of ivory and using a pistol to threaten Kenya Wildlife Service officers from arresting him.

Moses Osoromo allegedly committed the offence in Thika town.

A brazen gang broke into St Joseph Chuka Catholic Church on Sunday night and stole the offertory.

The gang stormed into the compound at around midnight and nuns at the convent suspect they were assisted by an insider.

Sister Jacinta Gakii, a nun, said she heard a big bang after the thieves broke a door into the convent at around 12am and screamed for help.

A second nun who was responding to the distress call was seized by the gang and ordered to take them to the priest’s house.

“My colleague came out to rescue me, but was held by the robbers who directed her to take them to the priest’s house where they took the money,” said Sister Gakii.

She added that they suspect somebody well conversant with the convent could have guided the thieves because the compound is well protected.

“They came from the back door which is very hard for a stranger to know,” she said.

Father Cyprian Mbaka said although the money had not been counted, the church usually collects about Sh16,000 as offertory every Sunday.

Tharaka-Nithi acting County Police Commander Beatrice Karaguri said no one was injured during the incident.

She noted that the incident must have been well planned because a window of priest’s house was marked.

“These people knew exactly where the offertory is kept because when the nun took them to the priest room they went straight to the marked window, broke it and took the money,” said Ms Kiraguri.

She said they had launched investigation into the incident.

Residents have condemned the theft and called on the police to bring an end to the rising crimes in the town.

“If they are breaking into a church and taking away offering, it means that our businesses are not safe,” said Mr James Mutegi a businessman in Chuka town.

Political commentator Mutahi Ngunyi has said that he will sue the Auditor-General for stating that he was overpaid for work done for the National Youth Service.

Mr Ngunyi made the statement via Twitter on Monday after the report on how he was paid Sh12.5 million more than what was due to him was published in the media.

He attributed the Auditor-General’s report to malice and politics by the Opposition.

Mr Ngunyi’s firm, The Consulting House, was hired to restructure the National Youth Service in what later came to be referred to as the NYS 5-Point Vision.

The firm was registered in November 2009 and its directors are Mr Godfrey Mutahi Ngunyi and Ms Judith Langat Mutahi.

It had two contracts — one signed in March 2014 for Sh40 million and another for Sh50 million.

The first one was fulfilled and Mr Ngunyi was paid.

However, it was in the second one that Auditor-General Edward Ouko discovered that he was paid Sh62.5 million, which was 25 per cent more than the agreed contractual sum of Sh50 million.

“Further enquiries revealed that the payment of Sh12.5 million on April 21, 2015 was done using a copy of (the) invoice dated March 11, 2015, which had been used to support an earlier payment of the same amount done on March 16, 2015,” the Auditor-General said.

Mr Ouko, however, does not state whether the money was refunded or any steps taken to recover it.

His report was compiled at the behest of the National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee, and will form the basis of the team’s inquiry into NYS issues.

Meet the gorgeous twins who married the same man – video

South African twin sisters have raised eyebrows after getting married to a man twice their age.

The twins, Owami and Olwethu Mzazi were interviewed by SABC’s Mapaseka Mokwele in her Ask Motswako TV show.

During the interview, the 25 year-old twins explained how they sleep in separate bedrooms and their husband aged 50 alternates his nights, occasionally having a three sum.

Both Owami and Olwethu got married to their husband on the same day after he paid their dowry.

They are both students at City Varsity where they study acting and have one child each.

Their three year old girls act as twins, to the extent of sharing a bedroom, and they refer to their mothers as Mama One and Mama Two.

During the interview, the twin sisters said they are never jealous of each other as their husband knows how to balance his time well.

“Even when he sends an SMS he will send it to Owami and to Olwethu. When he is about to come home he will send an SMS to both of us. He is coming to the same house but he separates the SMSs,” said the twins during the interview as translated by the show.

The two added that they opted for the older man who was their acting mentor because they never wanted to be separated even in marriage.

“He was our acting teacher and after a while we developed a bond. He told us that he loved both of us from the beginning. Back then he didn’t know that we wanted to marry one person,” said the twins.

Despite the shock for both extended families when the man came to pay the dowry for both ladies, the twins say their grandmother was aware that they wanted to get married to the same man.

Their uncle had earlier mentioned that they would only be managed by an older man who will love them equally and wants to take care of his two wives.

A mother has sued three teachers for allegedly caning her child for failing to meet academic targets.

She also sued the board of management of a Nairobi high school where the child was a Form Two student, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the Attorney-General.

She wants the court to compel the TSC to investigate the teachers she is accusing of thoroughly beating up her child.

SWELLINGS AND WOUNDS

Through lawyer Michael Ndegwa, the woman claimed that her son sustained swellings and wounds on his thighs after being subjected to the corporal punishment.

“Some time in August 2015, my son showed me fresh wounds and black cane marks. I applied ointment to the wounds and gave my child some painkillers,” she said.

According to the woman, her son could not bathe, sit or walk following the incident that occurred last year. She said he was in pain and experienced discomfort, stress and psychological trauma.

She also claimed that her child suffered shame and low self-esteem.

The woman said her son refused to go back to the boarding school, a situation that compelled her to transfer him to a relatively expensive day institution.

TRAUMA

She claimed she also had to spend a lot of money on counselling to have the schoolboy stabilise from the psychological trauma.

Mr Ndegwa said the minor’s right to education had been interfered with.

He said the parent had to incur higher costs of enrolling and maintaining her child.

“The minor is gravely suffering from the unjust, unfair and unwarranted acts of the three teachers.

“Their actions necessitated his mother to seek an alternative school because all her attempts to get solutions from the principal and his deputy did not bear fruit,” said Mr Ndegwa.

The mother now wants the three teachers to face disciplinary action from the TSC. She wants them to be suspended to pave the way for investigations.

The woman is seeking compensation for her son over the physical pain and psychological anguish he went through.

Four Kenyans are among 16 people jailed in South Sudan on Monday after they were convicted of stealing Sh1.4 billion ($14 million) from President Salva Kiir’s office.

The convicted officials include the former chief administrator in the office of the president, Mayen Wol, the former executive director in president’s office, Yel Luol and national security officer John Agou, according to the website talkofjuba.com.

Some of them are President Kiiir’s relatives, according to press reports in the world’s youngest nation.

Defence lawyer Agok Makur told the website nyamile.com that the 16 were found guilty of forging signatures including that of President Kiir and other officials to withdraw huge sums from the bank.

The convicts are also said to have looted part of the cash the from President Kiir’s office.

The High Court in South Sudan found that the offences were committed between 2013 and 2015 alone.

A whopping Sh400 billion ($4 billion), mainly donor money, has been looted from South Sudan since it gained independence in 2011.

On Monday, Gats finally embarked on the trip to the Asian nation and she announced it in the best way she knew how via Facebook.

She posted real pictures of herself at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and in a plane on her way to her dream vacation in China.

“I am leaving the country to (sic) China…,” said an elated Gats.

Mr Gichuru was present to see her live her dream.

“Managed to make it to the airport in time to see Seve Gats off to China. Don’t miss your flight or carry things for strangers!! Have fun and God’s blessings,” said Mr Gichuru on his Facebook page.

He added that that Gats will have a limousine waiting for her when she lands in China that will take her to all her destinations.

The national women volleyball team returned home to a low key reception following a month long tough tour of Europe and South America.

During the tour, the Malkia Strikers failed to qualify for the Rio Olympic Games and got relegated from the group 2 FIVB Grand Prix.

The African champions lost to Colombia and hosts Puerto Rico, but recovered to beat Algeria at the World Olympic Qualification Tournament.

The results saw the team miss out on qualification to the Olympics in August.

Puerto Rico scooped the sole qualification berth to Brazil from this pool.

Later, Kenya lost in straight sets to Argentina, Puerto Rico, Poland and Dominican Republic in the Grand Prix played in Argentina and Poland.

The results saw the team being relegated to Group 3 ahead of next year’s competition.

“We have picked up valuable lessons and experience on discipline, preparations and tactics. The ladies put up good fights against some of the seasoned teams in the world of volleyball,” the team’s manager Martin Kimondo said.

Veterans Brackides Agala, Everlyne Makuto, Jane Wacu and Janet Wanja were some of the standout players for team Kenya.

Kenyan striker Jesse Were is ineligible to feature in Zesco United’s opening clash of the Caf Africa Champions League group stage against Al Ahly this weekend.

The former Tusker FC forward is suspended after receiving consecutive yellow cards during games against AS Horaya (Guinea) and Stade Malien (Mali) earlier in the competition.

Also suspended is defender Ben Adama, who scored the lone goal in a crucial 1-0 away win to Nkana FC in Kitwe last weekend.

“I have just been alerted to the situation. I won’t be able to play,” Were told Nairobi News from his Ndola base.

Were’s absence could prove vital for George Lwandamina’s team.

The 27 year-old striker, who is being courted by several clubs in South Africa, is the team’s top scorer at the half way stage of the season, with ten league goals and three champions league goals.

Congolese Idriss Mbombo and local boy Jackson Mwanza are expected to deputise for Were in the game against the Egyptian powerhouse set for the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Meanwhile, two other Kenyan footballers, David “Calabar” Owino and Anthony Akumu are set to create a bit of history if they line up for Zesco against Al Ahly by becoming the first Kenyans to feature in this stage of the competition.

Zesco have been pooled against Ahly, Ivorian club Asec Mimosas, alongside Moroccan outfit Wydad Casablanca in this lucrative phase of the competition.

Blatter: UEFA uses hot and cold balls to rig draws

Sepp Blatter attends the 129th Annual General Meeting of the International Football Association Board (IFAB) at the Culloden Hotel in Belfast on February 28, 2015.

Disgraced Fifa President Sepp Blatter now claims that European football draws were rigged using hot and cold balls.

Blatter, who is appealing his suspension from Fifa, claimed in an interview that the balls were “marked” by either heating them or cooling them in a refrigerator.

“I never touched the balls. Of course, you can mark them (by) heating them or cooling them.

“I witnessed draws at the European level where that happened. But never at Fifa. Of course it can be done,” he said in an interview with Argentine newspaper La Nacion.

In the interview, Blatter, who said only one team had benefited from such a practice, explained how the trick works: “You put the balls in the refrigerator beforehand. Just by comparing one and the other when you touch them you can tell the cold balls from the hot. When you touch them, you know what they are.”

But in a rejoinder, UEFA refuted Blatter’s claims.

“Allegations that UEFA has in the past fixed draws for its competitions are completely absurd and therefore not worth a reaction,” it said in a statement to Sky Sports .
