Guys, eight mistakes to avoid for a great sex life

Sometimes the woes in your sex life come from without. Other times though, you are the cause of them.

The sad thing is that you may not even be aware of it. Here’s a look into mistakes you may be making which are negatively impacting on your sex life;

1. Failing to feed your libido – Yes, the foods you eat determine how high or low your libido is. The first step in protecting your libido ought to be settling for a diet consisting of libido boosting foods like sweet potatoes and avocadoes.

2. Not having a birth control plan – One thing that every grown man should have in his mind is that whilst women have safe and unsafe days, a man is never safe. This means that he should be involved in the birth control. That is the only way that both you and your partner can be at ease all the time.

3. Getting too intimate – While it might seem like a good thing, getting too intimate or overly familiar with your love interest might hurt your sex life. You can begin by locking the toilet door.

4. Leaving the TV – A lot of couples bond over TV time. It is great if you can enjoy some TV together with your partner. It is however a good idea to turn the television off when getting intimate as television playing in the background takes away from that feeling of closeness.

5. Unsolicited nudes – Some people like sending and receiving nude photos, others do not. Before sending your love interest your nudes, make sure that she is interested. If she isn’t, you could end up hurting your sex life.

6. Discussing past lovers – For some couples, full disclosure about their past works to improve their current relationships. The truth however is that discussing your past sex lives with your partner might hurt your present sex life.

7. Taking cues from porn – A lot of men imagine that the more porn you watch, the better your sex life gets. The truth is that watching porn could actually be eating into your sex life. Do not let porn take the leading place in your sex life.

8. Not washing your sheets – Ask any woman and she will tell you how much lifting of your spirits a clean fresh smelling bedroom will do. Getting a great sex life could be as easy as changing those sheets every other day.

The Kenyan passport

A ‘stateless’ man from Nairobi, who had for the last 12 years been seeking application as a citizen of Kenya without success, could finally be provided with the crucial documents next month.

Mr Kulraj Singh Bhangra, had on December 5, 2014 obtained Court orders directing the said Director-General to consider his application as a citizen of Kenya but the said state officer had been reluctant to comply.

But there is now light at the end of the tunnel for Mr Bhangra after High Court judge Isaac Lenaola on Friday ordered the Director-General of Kenya Citizens and Foreign Nationals Management Service, to comply with the previous court orders, or face the wrath of the court.

“The director general having admitted non-compliance with the orders of December 5, 2014, he is hereby cited for contempt of court. To purge the contempt, he is granted a further 30 days to comply,” said Justice Lenaola.

The judge said failure to act, the court will proceed to mete out such sentence and sanctions on the Director-General of Kenya Citizens and Foreign Nationals Management Service, as it deems fit.

Mr Bhangra, obtained a Kenyan Identity card in Makadara, Nairobi County, and has been living in Kenya since birth. He had applied for a passport on May 19, 2009 but was verbally informed that he was stateless.

BORN IN KENYA

Justice Lenaola had ruled that the Director-General of Kenya Citizens and Foreign National Management Service, had violated Mr Bhangra’s right by failing to give him a written notice on the status of his application.

Mr Bhangra had told the court that his father was born in Kenya in October, 1951. He said his father registered him as a British citizen on September 2, 1987 and he was then issued with a certificate on August 12, 1987.

He also said his father married his mother in Kericho on March 13, 1977.

Mr Bhangra had been issued with a temporary permit to travel to East Africa but the document was later confiscated.

In defence, the state counsel had told the court that the concerned state office had been unable to comply with the court orders because original files relating to Mr Bhangra, and which contained vital information that is necessary in considering his application for registration as a citizen of Kenya, had gone missing.

However, that Mr Bhangra had in the meantime, been issued with a certificate of identity valid for one year to enable him travel in and out of Kenya as he wished.

Who would have thought that in 2016 there would be people clamouring to watch Tanzania Bongo Flava musician Mr Nice?

Apparently there are, because the Fagilia musician, who was such a sensation in the early 2000s, will be doing a 47-county tour of Kenya.

The artiste has signed a deal with a company called Soko Bay INT Ltd that will require him to do 51 shows in his “47-County Tour.”

ONE-YEAR CONTRACT

While here in Kenya, Mr Nice told Tanzanian entertainment news-site Bongo5 that it’s the biggest deal he’s ever landed.

“I appreciate Kenyans for still believing and loving me. It’s a one-year contract that encompasses everything,” he said.

“I’m making sure that I do at least one show every weekend, but you know there is no difference between Mondays and weekends when it comes to entertainment here…” he said.

He added that living arrangements had already been put in place, which is one of the requirements of the contract.

Why Lupita has been branded ‘snappish and just rude’

Oscar award winning actress Lupita Nyong'o.

Oscar winning actress Lupita Nyong’o has been called out by a former People magazine entertainment writer for being “snappish or just rude.”

Sara Hammel, a long-time writer (over 14 years) of the US publication, released a semi-memoir titled Red Carpet Regret: Confessions of a cynical celebrity journalist, in which she talks about meeting and interviewing celebrities.

She names Richard Gere, Alan Cumming, Jon Bon Jovi and Lupita Nyong’o as celebrities who are just rude or snappish.

However, this information may be taken with a pinch of salt as Hammel quit People a few weeks ago with a public resignation letter calling out celebrities and their publicists.

BACKSTAGE ANTICS

Late last year, there were also reports from the Daily Mail that the 12 Years A Slave Oscar winner was “a diva who is completely overshadowing her co-stars on the Broadway-bound play Eclipsed with her backstage antics.

According to the magazine, her co-stars could barely stand to work with her. An unnamed source said she refused to go to lunch with the other cast members and tried to get a different dressing room at the theatre.

And in January 2015, reality star Kenya Moore said the actress gave her the cold shoulder at a Golden Globes afterparty.

She tweeted: “Lots of people were so cool @taylorswift13 was so sweet but @Lupita_Nyongo refused 2 take pics After 2 movies #girlbye”

Why Ababu is a hero to some and traitor to others

Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba addressing journalists on July 13, 2016. PHOTO | CORRESPONDENT

His recent flamboyance and newfound generosity have sent tongues wagging since he started his war against ODM leader Raila Odinga.

When he convened a meeting in Busia to announce his intention to resign as the party’s secretary general, his supporters trooped in large numbers to lend a hand to their leader seen as a victim of political betrayal by the ODM leadership.

Unlike the previous events by the Budalang’i lawmaker, this one held at the Masinde Muliro University, Budalang’i Campus, was unique, lightened up with a feast, show of power and money in plenty.

The organisers distributed white T-Shirts to the more than 700 delegates attending the event.

Mr Ababu Namwamba’s appearance in his constituency and Busia County by extension is now a major centre of attraction with huge crowds milling around to engage him.

A hitherto reserved politician, the MP who was fished from a fellowship in London to come and contest the Budalang’i parliamentary seat during the 2007 General Election, Mr Namwamba has engaged in one controversy after the other during his near 10 years political life.

But perhaps it is an event in 1997 when the then student leader at the University of Nairobi’s Parklands Campus first showed the controversial side of the future politician.

A meeting called by Sonu leaders to address issues affecting students resolved to disrupt a graduation event that was to be attended by former President Daniel Moi, then the chancellor of all public universities in the country.

SECRET RECORDING

The plan was to be executed secretly at dawn but failed terribly after police deployed huge numbers of the General Service Unit (GSU) officers to the graduation square to the shock of the riot planners.

All student leaders who participated in the night meeting had their rooms surrounded by police officers, Prof Francis Gichaga, the Vice-Chancellor, having been fully briefed about the plot.

Later the students linked Mr Namwamba to the leakage forcing him to move from his hostel at Parklands due to security concerns.

Mr Namwamba pulled a fast one on Mr Odinga when he recorded a conversation between him and Nakuru East MP Samuel Arama and Suna East MP Junet Mohammed.

He planned to use the recordings as defence against a case that was then building against him and other Public Accounts Committee members.

Earlier, the MP was in his element during the stormy swearing in ceremony of Members of Parliament after the disputed 2007 general election when he rose on a point of order and vehemently opposed the swearing in of President Mwai Kibaki as the Othaya MP.

“Mr Speaker Sir, there is absolutely no reason why the Member for Othaya should be sworn in before me,” he argued.

Mr Kibaki’s first name Emilio was falling way after Mr Namwamba’s first name in the order prepared by parliamentary clerks for swearing in.

SWEARING-IN DRAMA

He would later swear in the name of Raila Amolo Odinga as the President before he was promptly forced to take the oath correctly.

“Every time they differed with Raila he would always remind him that ‘remember, I am the only MP who swore in your name’,” said another MP who associated closely with Mr Namwamba.

But Funyula MP Dr Paul Otuoma who was at one point a sworn critic of Mr Namwamba when he declared interest in becoming ODM Secretary General now buys very little of the claims that some of the grumbling MPs could be on the payroll of the Jubilee Administration.

Said Dr Otuoma: “This manipulation of communication to brand some members as moles and broke hirelings is a culture we must stop to mature our politics.”

Those who know Mr Namwamba describe him as an energetic and innovative political operative whose wits would be largely missed by the ODM brigade.

“We needed to have listened to his concerns. There was no need to ignore him, he started the ODM reloaded and recently launched the Toklezea ID to register more voters in the Cord strongholds. I wished there was enough patience to hear them out,” said an MP from Nyanza who cannot be quoted.

But Nyatike MP Omondi Anyanga with whom Mr Namwamba served in the Public Accounts Committee when asked to describe the eloquent legislator stated: “Robert Green’s The 48 Laws of Power is Ababu Namwamba’s book I think he read it so well and mastered it from point to point-he actually implemented it.”

Police boss who was sacked after vetting challenges decision in court

A senior police officer allegedly sacked over his private source of income on Friday sued his former employer.

Senior Superintendent Shedrack Mutwetumo Maithya who was found unsuitable with 13 other seniors’ officers on May 5 after going through a vetting process twice, challenged the National Police Service Commission’s decision recommendation to send him home.

He faulted the commission for accusing him of not declaring the acreage and location of his house in Kangundo as well as undervaluing it.

He claimed that the commission accused him of hiding his net worth since he did not disclose the house’s clear net worth, providing a clear breakdown of a bar business which he owns and a land rover he sold off last year.

Through lawyer George Kithi, he claimed that the grounds which the commission gave warranting his dismissal despite his 30 years of service, were malicious.

Mr Maithya also faulted the commission for being biased, unfair and discriminatory.

He was twice declared unsuitable following a March 23, 2015 vetting process and a review in February.

“The decisions amounted to gross violation, he is under great and undue anxiety since there is a clear abuse of his right. He would therefore wish to get his day in court to clear his name,” Mr Kithi said.

DECLARED UNSUITABLE

He alleged that there were no complaints against him when he appeared before the vetting panel on the two occasions and that he provided all relevant information as required.

According to Mr Kithi, NPSC found that he undervalued his asset to deceive it from making an evaluation on his financial status and this amounted to frustrating the vetting process and portraying him to be lacking integrity.

He was also allegedly declared unsuitable because his wife is also an inspector but went ahead to purchase a Toyota Corolla at Sh180,000 from the police auction.

He was therefore accused of having a perceived conflict of interest hence found unsuitable as well as incompetent to continue to serve as an officer.

He also claimed that the reasons cited portray him to be corrupt and suggest that his property has been improperly acquired yet he placed before the commission a letter indicating that the house is worth Sh3 million.

He further faulted NPSC for failing to take into account his evidence and acting in an unreasonable manner hence caused him to lose his self-esteem as well confidence from his colleagues and the society.

“He will be unable to get employment with any reputable organization considering that he was discontinued from the service over corruption and personal interest as cited reasons but no evidence to show it,” Mr Kithi said.

He wants the commission’s decisions to be declared unlawful, be quashed and that it be ordered to consider re-vetting him a third time. He also wants compensation for his salary and other emoluments which were consequently stopped.

Eight things to do if your parents hate your partner

Sad-Couple-III

Sometimes, your parents may not accept your choice of partner. Such a predicament puts one in a catch 22 situation where you want both your partner and your parents to remain in your life.

What can you do about it? Here’s a look into things to try and make the situation better;

1. Give them an ear – Yes, you are a grown man or woman entitled to living your life the way you want, there is no debate about that. The other truth however is that your parents want what is best for you. They do have a reason for objecting. Do not shun them without first hearing them out. They may have a point.

2. Don’t keep the relationship secret – It is very tempting to keep a relationship secret when you know in advance that your parents will disapprove. The wise thing to do is to stand with your truth and to deal with the consequences. Secrets relationships do not last.

3. Explain yourself – People in love are sometimes proud. You feel that no one has the right to question your choice of partner. If your relationship is bringing friction in the relationship you have with your parents, consider throwing this pride out the window. You may remedy this situation by simply sitting your parents down and talking with them about your feelings and the things that you love about your partner. This may get them to see him like you do.

4. Have them interact – In addition to talking about the things you love about your partner, bring him or her around so that your parents can interact with them. They may just get to see what you see in this person.

5. Agree to disagree – If you talk with your parents about why you love this man or woman and they just can’t see things your way, it may be time to agree to disagree.

6. Weigh the pros and cons – While true love is a good thing to have, it is not enough to fuel a romantic relationship to old age. There are so many other components in a relationship. Before you decide to choose one side over the other, weigh the pros and cons of staying against those of leaving.

7. Support your partner – If you weigh the pros and cons and you see that having your partner in your life is the better option, support them. Let them know that you will love and support them despite the hiccups. This togetherness is the only thing that will be holding this relationship together.

10. Give it time – It is said that time heals everything. Time may also soften your parents’ hearts. If you have done everything you could to get them to accept your partner without fail, do not give up. Giving them some time may work for you.

Controversial Kenyan rapper, Jackson Makini, better known as Prezzo, was on Saturday night arrested after he tried to force himself into someone’s vehicle at Nyayo Estate in Nairobi.

Prezzo is said to have hailed a motorist for a lift but when his request was turned down, he attempted to forcefully get into the car while at the same time threatening the motorist.

Guards at the estate then called police officers from Embakasi Police Station, who arrested and booked the musician who reportedly seemed inebriated.

When Nairobi News reached Embakasi OCPD Appollo Onyonyi to confirm the arrest, he referred us to the DCIO who however didn’t answer his phone.

Residents of Nyayo Estate said that Prezzo was in a company of three people who fled after the police were called and one of their cars was towed away.

INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOUR

In recent times Prezzo has repeatedly appeared in public in a state that has left many questions begging.

In January 2016, the rapper subjected himself to public criticism for what was deemed as inappropriate behaviour while appearing on a live TV show on KTN.

The entertainer, who seemed inebriated, could hardly answer questions straight and kept on slurring his answers in a manner that indicated he was trying to make a pass on the show’s host Betty Kyalo.

A few months later, it was also reported that he showed up at a TV interview in Tanzania intoxicated.

He has also once been arrested for shooting in the air at the entrance to a Westland’s based nightclub.

How Albaik Broast Chicken found it’s way into Kenya

When Abdul Haji got the chance to venture into business, he knew he had to put his skills to the test. He had just graduated from Middlesex University Dubai in 2010 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.

And so Albaik Broast Chicken Kenya was born in 2012. The idea of bringing the fast food franchise to Kenya and Africa was conceived when Mr Haji and his father were in Egypt.

“Albaik is a food company that mainly specializes in fast foods. They exist in different parts of the world with their headquarters in Egypt. My father and I signed the contract that enabled as to become one of their very first franchises in Africa,” recalls Mr Haji.

Their first destination was Mombasa which apart from being their home was also as an ideal location to set up business.

But for a start, the machinery had to be shipped from Dubai while the spices and ingredients had to be imported from America as per the contract.

“The response in Mombasa was overwhelming. It was expected though because our food is Halal and most people who have been on pilgrimage have sampled the Albaik products which are popular in the Arabic countries,” says the 26 year old.

The franchise boasts of being different from other fast food joints in the country. The chicken at Albaik has to undergo a marination process for half an hour for complete penetration of the spices. The chicken is then double breaded to make it crunchy before being cooked for 11 minutes and 30 seconds.

The brand has now expanded to Nairobi with a shop at Korna House and plans are underway for the opening of another branch in Mombasa.

GETTING STARTED

However, bringing in a new concept always has its challenges. The proprietors had to bring in experts from Egypt to train the locals on how to operate the equipment plus preparation of the food for a period of one month.

“It was not easy at the beginning. We were using a lot of money with no assurance that we would get it back. From the franchise fee, to buying and importation of equipment, importation of the ingredients, bringing in the experts and getting a place for the restaurant and renovating it. It amounted to roughly 1 million dollars,” Mr Haji said.

To cut down on costs, importation of condiments is done in bulk and taken to the company’s central processing plant in Mombasa. There all the necessary mixing of the condiments is done before they are shipped to respective outlets within.

The Mombasa branch is now headed by Mr Haji’s sister, Ms Muna Haji, while he operates the new Nairobi branch.

The growing franchise offers free delivery of products at affordable prices and different packages as per the client’s preference.

“We also have special food for children, where we package their food with toys inside, so every child goes home with whatever toy he or she finds after enjoying the meal. This makes the children look forward to coming back to Albaik,” said Muna, a Business and Strategic Management masters degree holder from KeMu University.

According to Ms Muna, choice of location, target market, righting staff and quality products have all been key to the businesses success.

“Most importantly looking after the staff is very critical because they are the ones who are in direct contact with the client. They can either make or destroy you,” she says.

Snake-and-handbag

There was panic inside a hall in Embu town, after a snake emerged from a woman’s handbag, during a prayer session conducted by Pastor Lucy Natasha on Saturday afternoon.

The black snake with white spots come out of a black polythene bag as the cleric held prayers for people with various needs, sending the about 1,500 faithful inside Emco Hall scampering for safety.

Many of the scared faithful took cover outside the building while others stood over their seats as the snake, which was about half a metre long, started moving from the pulpit.

However, the snake was soon killed and and burnt using petroleum by a few brave people.

Pastor Natasha narrated how the incident terrified the faithful as pastors teamed up to pray for the woman.

“When we tried to kill the snake, it started transforming into many creatures. At one moment it looked like a caterpillar, then it swelled up to take the shape of a butterfly. It is sad that people are still practicing witchcraft in this age,” said the pastor.

According to Pastor Simba Manyuki of Around the Globe Deliverance Ministry, the smartly dressed woman had entered the building in the afternoon and sat near the back as various preachers shared Bible verses.

Rev Natasha then took to the podium and shared the word after which she started praying for people facing various problems in life.

‘DEVIL’S AGENT’

“It was after the prayers had been said that the woman started shaking and became almost violent. Rev Natasha summoned ushers to bring her forward. The woman surged forward as if she wanted to attack someone while clinging onto her handbag,” recounted Pastor Manyuki.

It is then that Rev Natasha pointed out that she was a devil’s agent and started praying for her and ordered that the handbag be opened.

When Pastor Peter Nyaga, a clergyman based in Tanzania took the handbag, they found various paraphernalia related to witchcraft.

“Upon interrogation, the woman said she was sent to scuttle the prayer meeting and the snake usually leads her. It was alive and started moving up the pulpit. It was wrapped in a round thing that had blood,” said pastor Manyuki.

Rev Natasha was on a four day inter-denominational prayer meeting that was attended by a host of pastors from Tanzania including celebrated gospel artiste Christina Shusho.

Amanda Jeneby, a Kenyan student at the London College of Fashion, showcased her first collection Nairobi on Saturday afternoon.

Dubbed the Amandla Capsule Collection, the name Amandla is coined from a Zulu and Xhosa word meaning power.

Amanda has been an interning for the brand since May, 2016 under the watchful eye of renowned fashion designer Adele Dejak.

The collection is inspired by her experience in Kenya. The inspiration behind the Amandla collection comes from the geometrical shapes and patterns often found in the Maasai’s dress-culture.

In most of her collection she uses cow horns and hide which are easily accessible in Kenya and then adds brace which are all done here by a silver smith based in Kiambu.

“I decided to come and intern in Kenya because I remember how my dad, who is Kenyan, would bring us here for holidays while growing up,” said Amanda whose mother is Swedish.

Her designs and style have gotten good feedback thanks to her generous use of local fabrics fused with contemporary pieces, which appealed to the younger generation.

SNAPPY 7: Akothee – I have an expensive hobby of giving birth

Kenyan songstress Esther Akoth aka Akothee during the interview with Nairobi News. PHOTO | FRANSOIR NDERITU

Kenyan musician Esther Akoth aka Akothee, has time and time again proven skeptics wrong by releasing one single after another.

The mother of five, who was once a taxi driver and claims to be one of the wealthiest female musicians in Kenya, has just released her latest single Yuko Moyoni. She got candid with Nairobi News over her fast rising music career.

1. Tell us about your background? – Akothee is a mother of five, she is an entrepreneur, an entertainer an influencer, a comedian and just a happy human being and also an artiste. I will say I did not receive enough attention from my large family as a teenager. Peer pressure forced me to get married and start a family with another teenager at the age of 14 years old. I have no one to blame but myself. In the end I turned my misfortunes around and made it work.

2. Tell us about your new song and why you chose to shoot the video in South Africa?Yuko Moyoni is a song that is dear to me. I try to teach my fellow African women – not only the ones who are have dark skin but as Africans at large – that anyone can love us no matter how we look and we should stop emulating western culture.

I love South Africa as much as I love my country. I’ve shot most of my music video here in Kenya so I decided to do my latest song in South Africa because that is where I also do my shopping.

3. Describe your genre of music and why you always talk in all your songs? – My music is Afro-beat mixed with Aglo-Luo. I am sorry to my fans because I love my heritage so much and sometimes I have to check in because my English is limited.

Being a linguistic person I wish I could learn more languages, so at the end of my songs I give credits. For example, in one of my songs I say that there are four people who are disturbing the world, namely Akothee, Lupita, Jakom (Raila Odiga) and Obama. To me it is my signature.

4. Is it true that you twerked in front of your dad? – Yes, I did and I am not ashamed of it because at one time when I was young he wiped me. There is no big deal with twerking, even my daughter was twerking in front of me. Just twerk.

Akothee-XX

Kenyan songstress Esther Akoth aka Akothee during the interview with Nairobi News. PHOTO | FRANSOIR NDERITU

5. What hidden talents do you have? – I’m a comedian better known as Madam Boss, an actress, a very good dancer and one of my biggest hobby is giving birth. It is an expensive one but that is because I know I can take care of them. I do not follow the fathers of my children around. I take care of my five children on my own. People have hobbies of buying cars, but I have a hobby of paying bills.

6. Would you ever consider contesting for a political seat? – I don’t want ever to go broke. I cannot stand pressure from people because I have seen it through my mother who is an MCA. I see what she goes through every day. Imagine even when I travel home I have to hide just to get a rest because people will come to my house and camp there all night. So imagine if they gave me their votes.

7. What advice would you give to the young people? – Look at one of your colleague who is 23 years old and she is at work right now, while you will find most of her age mates on social media talking about clothes and celebrities.

To the young ones, life is not rocket science and it is not one of those days manna would fall from above. Nothing is for free, stop following social media because some might be true and others might not be. Just go back and look at your real life as a person and make yourself a better person.

My children are not on social media and when they wake up, the maids do not go to their rooms to make their beds. They do it themselves because I don’t want them to live a fantasy. Social media will never take you anywhere.

Mr Kevin Oduor Owiti, 21, Kenya’s representative to the Mr World pageant, knows that a man, too, has beauty and a purpose.

Mr Owiti is in Southport, the United Kingdom, contesting in a pageant that seeks “the world’s most desirable man”.

Standing at 5’ 9”, the third year Business Management and Economics student at the Catholic University in Nairobi is confident he is that man.

“I am humbled to be representing my country at the world finals and I hope to bring the crown home,” said Mr Owiti, who has made a small fortune from starring in commercials.

“Since I took the national title, I have been preparing myself physically and mentally with the help of some mentors, who have helped me to become a better version of myself.”

PRAYING AND FASTING

The staunch Christian says he has also been praying and fasting for the title.

Crowned alongside Miss World Kenya in Malindi, Kilifi County, last December, Mr Owiti is the first Mr Kenya in almost a decade.

The office of Mr World Kenya has been vacant since Mr Victor Mugambi was crowned in 2007. Without an immediate predecessor, Mr Owiti finds himself having to define the role that many assume is about being fashionable and showing off muscles.

Far from it, he says. The pageant is looking for an all-rounded person with good looks, physical strength, charisma, charm and a strong personality.

The winners in five events: — fashion and style, the extreme physical challenge, multi-media award, the sports challenge and the talent competition — earn a slot in the top 10 while the other positions are decided by a panel of judges.

With the high-octane buoyancy of the young, what Mr Owiti is most certain of is his talent. Speaking with a certain wisdom and rhythm of a seasoned poet, his face lights up with a boyish smile, revealing an impossibly perfect set of teeth.

WARM GAZE

He holds a steady, level and interested warm gaze and speaks with a confidence that is equally self-effacing.

“I don’t know if I will sing or present a spoken word piece, but whichever I choose, I’m sure to blow away the judges,” he said.

This talent is what earned Mr Siaya County the national title. Making the transition from modelling to pageantry, he has had to put his studies on hold.

“I’m giving all my attention to this title and take it as far as I can go,” said the model, who plans to use the title as a platform to campaign for the boy-child.

Modelling is an aggressive and competitive business but he believes that there is room for more men.

Controversial Kenyan rapper Jackson Ngechu Makini, popularly known as Prezzo, will Monday be charged with assaulting a Kenya Airways employee.

Nairobi County police commander Japheth Koome said the musician was arrested at Nyayo Estate on Saturday following a scuffle.

Mr Stanley Kipchumba Kimoret, a flight manager with the airline, told police that he arrived home and parked his car, but as he was offloading some items from the vehicle, he was confronted by Prezzo  and two other men.

According to Mr Kimoret, the three asked him to drop them in town but he declined, saying he does not operate a taxi.

DRUNK

The pilot said the musician, who appeared drunk, tried to force himself into the car but he stopped him from doing so.

He added that the musician then slapped him, prompting security guards in the area to intervene.

Police were notified about the incident and the musician was arrested and taken into custody.

Officers have, however, dismissed reports that the musician drew his gun and threatened to shoot the pilot.

The estate chairman, Mr Robert Alai, had posted on his Facebook page: “(Prezzo) now arrested and booked into Embakasi Police Station. Threatening Nyayo Estate guards with guns. Don’t try in Nyayo.”

NOT AWARE

When the Nation called Embakasi OCPD Appollo Onyonyi to confirm the arrest, he said: “I have received many calls inquiring about the arrest but I am not aware of it.”

In December last year, Prezzo was involved in a brawl with a man at Skyluxx after he invaded a table where a couple was seated.

In January, the rapper, who seemed inebriated, could hardly answer questions straight during a live TV show.

Former President Moi claims chunk of Balozi estate

Retired President Daniel arap Moi is claiming a portion of Balozi Estate in Nairobi’s Muthaiga North area in what is shaping up to be a big and baffling land battle.

And the man who is on record as having witnessed the former President’s signature in the purported transfer of the land to DPS International 28 years ago is none other than Mr Paul Nderitu Ndung’u, author of the famous Ndung’u Report on land grabbing.

Then a lawyer at Hamilton, Harrison and Mathews, Mr Ndung’u witnessed Mr Moi’s signature in the sale of the property to DPS, a company in which Mr Ndung’u, interestingly, was a director.

The former President now disowns the transaction, saying he never sold the land to anyone until last month when he transferred it to a US-based Kenyan, Dr George Kiongera, for Sh500 million.

DPS sold the property to Insurance Company of East Africa (ICEA), which subsequently sold it to the United States International University-Africa.

USIU-A then swapped a 10-acre portion with Balozi Estate, and it is that portion which Mr Moi is likely to claim.

The Nation has established that DPS was incorporated in 1982 and its shareholders were Mr Ndung’u, Mr Michael Lewis and a limited company, Solel Boneh.

Hamilton, Harrison and Mathews purportedly represented DPS in the November 18, 1988 transaction that is presumed to have changed the ownership of the piece of land from Mr Moi.

Mr Ndung’u and Mr Lewis were both lawyers in the renowned law firm at the time.

Mr Lewis died in March this year while Mr Ndung’u is a partner at Ndung’u Njoroge and Kwach Advocates, the firm that represented USIU-A in the ownership dispute last month.

Former Chelsea striker Demba Ba suffered a horror broken leg in the Shanghai derby at the weekend, with his coach warning the injury could end the 31-year-old’s playing career.

The Senegalese former Premier League marksman, who now plays for Shanghai Shenhua, tangled with Shanghai SIPG captain Sun Xiang as they both raced for the ball in the second half of Sunday’s Chinese Super League clash.

Sun’s leg hooked onto Ba’s, instantly snapping the limb and sending him crashing to the ground as it flopped loosely, gruesome television footage showed.

Shenhua, who won the match 2-1, described the injury as a broken leg and said the incident was “unfortunate” in a statement released on Monday.

Shenhua coach Gregorio Manzano told local media that Ba, who also played for Newcastle and West Ham in England, would be out for at least seven months.

“If I can choose, I’d rather lose the match than lose Demba Ba,” Manzano was quoted as saying by the Shanghai Daily newspaper.

“Football is unfair sometimes to let such a terrible thing happen to such a good man… That was the kind of terrible foul that could end a player’s career.”

SIPG’s coach, the former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson, expressed sympathy, according to the Shanghai Daily, saying: “It was a bad injury. I’m very sorry for Ba.”

Ba’s former club Chelsea posted a message of support on their official Twitter feed.

“All at Chelsea FC send our best wishes to former striker @dembabafoot. Get well soon Demba.” it said.
